Fishing companies

Professional fishing is the activity carried out by fishermen/women dedicated to the capture or collection of aquatic organisms in marine, brackish and freshwater environments and related activities.

Fishing companies may:

  • Fish in inland- or fresh waters, salty or brackish waters defined in the sea by the line connecting the most prominent points of the lagoon, basins, canals and rivers.
  • Sea fishing. Professional fishing is the activity carried out by the fisherman/woman dedicated to the capture or collection of aquatic organisms in marine, brackish and freshwater environments and related activities.

Fishing in marine waters is distinguished as:

  • Coastal fishing. Divided into local fishing and close fishing. Local fishing is done in maritime waters up to a distance of six miles from the coast, with or without fourth category fishing vessels, or from land. Close fishing is done in maritime waters up to a distance of 40 miles from the coast.
  • Deep-sea fishing. Is done in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Ocean fishing. Is done beyond the Straits.

In addition to professional fishing licenses, specific licenses are issued for "units serving the plant", ie for boats operating in aquaculture facilities.

Agricultural activity

Agricultural activities are considered related to fishing, if carried out by fishing companies, initial processing, conservation, transformation, distribution and comercialization for retail/wholesale, predominantly of their own products, promotion and enhancement of their own activity.
